Obituary

Mrs. Catherine Marie Martin, age 56, passed away on the afternoon of Wednesday, December 4th, 2019 at her home in White Oak, Ga. surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Martin was born in Portsmouth, Va. to George Spencer, Sr. and Melva Whorton Spencer.
Cathy was a devoted mother to four independent and strong women. She was their biggest fan and cheerleader. She was responsible for hearing loss in many Camden County High School parents and grandparents who attended track meets and swim meets during a 10 year time span. She was an adoring grandmother who made sure “the babies” were never without treats, toys, or kisses. Cathy was a dedicated employee for over 20 years at Kings Bay Naval Base Auto Skills. She took great pride in supporting our nation’s service members and often stayed late to ensure young Sailors and Marines had a safe means of transportation. Wife to the man of her dreams, he survived 38 years with her and is now expertly trained to dodge fast moving, airborne objects. Cathy was well known throughout her community and her family for her strong will, sarcasm, sense of humor and most of all her willingness to help anyone in need.
Mrs. Martin is survived by her husband, Michael A. Martin, of White Oak, Ga.; her daughters, Angela (William) Carter of Debary, Fl., Jessica (Mark) Benning of Sanford, Nc., Shanon Martin of White Oak, Ga., and Genny Martin of Freeport, Fl.; her sister, Susan (David) Nye of Dillsburg, Pa.; her brothers, George (Andrew) Spencer, Jr. of Sacramento, Ca., Frank (Wendy) Spencer of Kingsland, Ga., Michael Spencer of Brunswick, Ga., and Jason Spencer of Newburgh, In.; and her grandchildren, Micaela Martin, Jordan Carter, Madison Doyle, Abbigail Carter, Katilynn Doyle, Joseph Gates, Jeremiah Gates, and Kyle Benning.
A Celebration of Mrs. Martin’s life will be held December 11th, 6pm-8pm at King of Peace Episcopal Church 6230 Laurel Island Pkwy Kingsland, GA.
In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the King of Peace Episcopal Church.

Mrs Cathy was a wonderful lady!! I had the privilege of meeting her a couple years ago, she was always a great listener an always helped me out any way she could! I remember one time she told me my car was having a problem before I even knew my car was having a problem!! She told the guys what needed to be done an gave me rides untill it was fixed an able to be drove again. I will miss Mrs Cathy greatly and send my greatest condolences to her family during this hard time.

I’m so sorry to see this. Cathy was definitely a strong willed and independent lady but she was always caring and a defender of those who she thought needed protection. Many good memories of living next door to her and her family on Boone Street. Prayers for all of her family.
