Obituary

Mr. Fred C. Sutton, Jr ., age 88, passed away on the morning of Thursday, January 24th , 2019 at his home in Kingsland, Ga. after a brief illness.



Mr. Sutton was born on November 7th , 1930 in Ocilla, Ga. to the late Fred and Georgia Sutton, Sr. Mr. Sutton grew up in Ocilla, Ga. with his brothers and sisters. After he finished high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served our country for almost 8 years. He served during the Korean War, including a tour of duty in Korea. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, he attended the University of Georgia. On December 23rd , 1954 he married the love of his life, LaVerne Stevens, and God allowed him to have her by his side for 53 years. God gave them 3 wonderful children, Don, Donna, and Roger. They blessed us with 7 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. The Sutton family moved to Kingsland, Ga. in March of 1955 and opened Kingsland Auto Supply. Mr. Sutton owned the auto parts store for 45 years before retiring. He was very active in the community and was a faithful member of Kingsland First Baptist Church for over 50 years. Mr. Sutton will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.



Mr. Sutton is survived by his children, Don (Kathy Kite) Sutton of Jacksonville, Fl., Donna (David) Couch and Roger (Laurie) Sutton, all of Kingsland, Ga.; his sisters, Carolyn Cartledge of Stone Mountain, Ga. and Martha Claire Todd of Cummins, Ga.; his brother, Jack (Vivian) Sutton of Kingsland, Ga.; his grandchildren, Tyler Couch, Cavender Sutton, Carolyn Sutton, Amanda Sutton, and John Michael Sutton, Jordan Martin and Justin Martin; his great-grandchildren, Andre Johnson, Hailey Martin, and Payton Morton; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his wonderful companion and caregiver, Ethel Murray of Kingsland, Ga.



Besides his parents, Mr. Sutton was preceded in passing by his beloved wife, LaVerne Stevens Sutton; his brother, Kenneth W. Sutton; and his brothers-in-law, Dr. Densford Cartledge and Bill Todd.



Calling hours for the Sutton family will be from 6 pm to 8 pm Saturday, January 26th , 2019 at Coastal Camden Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 2 pm Sunday, January 27th, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Kingsland with Pastors Brian Parker and Vernon Dillingham presiding. Interment and military honors will follow at Lawnwood Cemetery in Kingsland, Ga. Cavender Sutton, Tyler Couch, Jimmy Sutton, Lawton Sutton, Stan Prince, and Clifton Roberson will serve as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be The Hardee Boys and The Grace Class of the First Baptist Church.



In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Sutton’s name may be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick, Ga.
